Husker Game Day

For us Nebraskans, there’s nothing we love more than Husker Football. Football Saturdays have become a regular event for many families, and we take great pride in the fact that we live in such an awesome state. Nebraska is said to have the most dedicated fan base in all of college football, and this is proven almost everywhere in Nebraska on Game Day.

The first season for The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s football team was in 1890, which means it has been around for 126 years. They have had a record number of 340 consecutive sellouts for their games, a record which dates back to 1962! A lot of people don’t know that before the football team at The University Of Nebraska-Lincoln was called The Cornhuskers, or The Huskers, it was variously called The Bug Eaters, The Old Gold Knights, The Antelopes, The Tree Planters,  and The Rattlesnake Boys.

A game day at Memorial Stadium is filled with tradition, from letting go of balloons after the Huskers score their first touchdown, to singing “Hail Varsity” and “There Is No Place Like Nebraska” to “throwing the bones.” This year, the Nebraska Cornhusker football season starts on Saturday, April 16th, with the Red-White Spring Game. So, Go Big Red!
