Marching To Victory

Marching+To+Victory

Aside from football, volleyball, softball, cross country, boys’ tennis and girl’s golf, another major endeavor during the fall for over 200 students is the four week marching band competition season. The students in the Lincoln East Marching Band are very passionate about their music to be so willing to meet at school every morning at 7:30 to perfect their performances. They put in hour after hour of work just to master a show that terminates in twelve minutes.

The first chance, this year, to present their skills was at the Harvest of Harmony competition held in Grand Island on October 1st. This event was a great kick off to the season because the band received a superior rating- the highest one possible. Not only that, but the students executed the routine so well that they were able to win Best In Field Show. This was the first time the East Marching Band received this award at this event.

Band Director Mr. Tom Thorpe was absolutely delighted with the result of this competition and proclaims, “I am very proud of the students and all the great work they put in.”

They did well again in their second competition held at the Lincoln High football field on October 8th by receiving third overall. Band members are relieved to have the final two competitions at home in Seacrest Field. The next competition for the Spartans is the LPS Marching Band Invitational on October 15th from 12:15-5pm where they will be performing with the other five LPS marching bands and various other Nebraska high schools. The Nebraska State Bandmasters Association (NSBA) State competition will be on October 22nd. Stop at Seacrest Field on Saturday at support your fellow Spartans!
