East High’s Food Bank

East Highs Food Bank

Food banks are non-profit, charity organizations that distribute food to those who have difficulty affording food. There is a food pantry right at Lincoln East High School that focuses specifically on providing food for students who attend the school and their families.

Nancy Clare, East’s social worker, gave some inside information about the food pantry.
“There are families at East who don’t have a lot of food or money. The food pantry tides them over for a week or so until payday.” she told me. “It was started during the first quarter of this school year, by Mrs. Dunning, as a collaboration between LPS and The Lincoln Food Bank. Each LPS high school has their own food pantry.”

Food banks are beneficial to many people worldwide. Food banks help to provide food for organizations like food pantries, soup kitchens, schools, homeless shelters, and orphanages. These organizations then distribute the food to the people that need it. Food banks have grown recently, and the growth has been welcomed by people on both sides of the political system.

The world’s first food bank, The St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, was established in Arizona in The U.S. in 1967. Since then, thousands of food banks have been set up all over the world. In The U.S. , cities will often have a single food bank which acts as a centralized warehouse and will serve several hundred front line agencies. The Food Bank Of Lincoln is an example of this type of food bank. The annual Backpack Program, which is a national event, focuses specifically on providing backpacks full of food for students and their families.

Food pantries are beneficial to people all over the world. They help provide food to families who don’t have a lot of food or money as well as by participating in many charity events to help raise money for these families. They care deeply about these families, and do all they can to help them. They understand the true meaning of charity. For more information about East High’s food pantry, contact Nancy Clare.
