What happened to BlackBerry?

A BlackBerry Phone
A BlackBerry Phone

With Apple and Android products surrounding us, it makes you wonder where the late 90’s and early to mid 2000’s popular BlackBerry phone went.  The phone was all the rage and every political savvy individual had to own one.   The ability to call and text friends incited excitement amongst teenagers, and the superior-for the time security enhancements made the phone perfect for government officials, business individuals and people of politics.  So how did this phone simply disappear you ask?  Well, technology companies like Apple and Android popped up on the market and took over quickly.  The bigger phones were physically appealing plus larger screens and, not to mention cool and new apps to make life seemingly easier.  Better cameras and more storage for videos and family photos also was an advantage.  BlackBerry simply couldn’t transform into the app, and sharing world.  The phone was mostly great at emailing and letting the person that texted you know when you read the message (which can be great but more so annoying).  Now during my research I also found some interesting facts making the disappearance even more clear.

Nearly 40% of cell phone owners had a BlackBerry in 2011 according to the Washington Post.  Now half of all U.S. household owners have at least one Apple product and 76 million out of 164 million cell phone users own an Android product.  With these growing statistics, seemingly old technology, like BlackBerry, are becoming non-existent.

So BlackBerry we bid you farewell, the phone was great while it lasted and paved the way for the new and improved technology that we have today.
