The Lincoln East boys swim and dive team closed out a tough dual against Northeast to win the boys city swimming title on Tuesday, January 31.  East won 100-91 with big performances from veteran swimmers Josh Roh, Aaron Janike, and Jared Murray. Head coach Ryan Rieker and his team know just how important each person’s role was in route to the win.

“We couldn’t have done it if everyone would not have done their part,” said Rieker.

Senior Josh Roh won the 200 freestyle (1:46.55) and the 500 freestyle (4:53.11), while Janike won the 50 freestyle (:23.26).  Junior Jared Murray won the 100 freestyle (:50.02).  The Spartans began the meet with strong performances by divers, Drew and Harrison Clanton.  East also placed 1st and 3rd in the medley relays.

Coach Rieker hopes this win will not only propel this team to a strong finish this season, but will inspire his teams in the years to come.

“The boys team has come a long way over the last year,” said Rieker.  “I think that this isn’t going to just impact this season, but the next season.”

The Spartans improved to 7-1 on the season, with a 5 dual meet win streak.  Their only loss this season occurred during holiday break at Omaha Burke.  East will compete at the 3rd Annual Millard South Swim and Dive Invitational on Friday, February 3rd.  The HAC Swimming and Diving Championships are set for February 9-11 in Lincoln and Omaha.
