East Show Choir Takes on Minnesota

East+Show+Choir+Takes+on+Minnesota

This weekend the Lincoln East Show Choirs will be packing up and taking their shows all the way to Minneapolis, Minnesota to compete in the Totino-Grace Show Choir Spectacular. Both Express and Elegance show choirs will be competing this weekend, in different divisions.  Express, the varsity show choir which is in the mixed group category consisting of both boys and girls will be competing against Elkhorn South and many other strong choirs from across the region.  Our Elegance show choir competes in the women’s division meaning it’s all girls will be facing Hastings among other tough teams.

This competition in Minnesota is a just a bit farther than past competitions this season.  The majority of show choir competitions have been held in the Lincoln/Omaha area, with the exception of Iowa earlier in the season.  This weekend will be the farthest our choir choirs have travelled and their first overnight stay. The Totino-Grace Spectacular is one of the largest show choir competitions in the region and the varsity show choir will be facing some of their toughest competition yet. Express will be competition against groups ranked in the top 30 of the entire nation.

The 2017 show choir season has been one for the books with Express getting top five in three out of four of their last competitions. East Express junior Mekenna Frederick reflected on their season, “Our season this year was been so much fun! Beating Southwest was definitely a highlight of the year and we all have worked so hard for it. Our goal this weekend is to make finals and get the opportunity to be placed among other top groups.” Of course a trip to Minneapolis would not be complete without a trip to the infamous Mall of America. “Also, Mall of America will be a huge bonus.” Says Frederick.
