School permits exists for those outside of the city but for those inside the city, not as much so.  Yet, with state senator Sue Crawford’s new bill this might be changing.

Crawford introduced a new bill to the legislature on March 1, 2017, which would give equal opportunity to all students to school permits.  School permits allows 14 to 16 year olds to drive to school and school sponsored activities without an official license.

The bill came into formation because of the troubling idea that city students have an equal amount of trouble getting to school as those who live outside of city limits.  

Laurie Klosterboer who is an executive director of the Nebraska Safety Council, opposes the very bill because of the issue of safety.  She cites different statistics which sheds light on the amount of accidents young teens are involved in.

No immediate action has been taken on approving the bill.
