A Makeover for a Cause

A+Makeover+for+a+Cause

As Spartans showed their school spirit on Friday, May 5, seven students got a makeover and donated hair to Children with Hair Loss. Each student had to donate a minimum of eight inches to the organization, while some students went above and beyond to donate even more hair.

The event was completely student driven, and the event was organized by Ms. Dugdale, as it had been in previous years at East. The event required that students step forward and fill the need, or else the event wouldn’t be able to happen.

When asked why they chose to participate, there were multiple reasons with a common, underlying theme. “I signed up because it was for a really cause good cause,” said senior Aleasha Jay. And with the added bonus of a free haircut, it was hard for some to pass up the deal. Students were able to donate to a noble cause, while getting a free haircut and styling from a professional stylist.

The students were all prepped by stylists in a side room as the pep rally ensued. When the time came, the students were positioned in the middle of the gymnasium to have their hair chopped off to the sound of a roaring crowd. Spartans were extremely enthusiastic about the event, and the makeovers yielded blaring cheers. The event truly got the crowd pumped, and all for a good cause.

After the public display, the students returned to the room to have their hair styled in a less manic manner. There were a variety of styles by the end of the pep rally, from short bobs to shoulder length hairdos. “I was really happen with the outcome,” said senior Aleasha Jay. Students were able to feel good about helping other people, all while rocking their new hair.
