LEGS Season Overview

LEGS+Season+Overview

The Lincoln East girls soccer team, or formally known as LEGS, saw their season come to an end after a 2-0 loss to Omaha Westside in the A-5 District Final in Omaha on Thursday, May 4.

Coming into the season, East was working with a roster with a little bit of everything, 7 seniors, 11 juniors, and several underclassmen who swung up throughout the season.

The Spartans began their season playing Omaha Mercy in town at Seacrest Field, winning that game 1-0.   After winning their first three games without allowing a single goal to be scored by either team, the Spartans had their first big test of the year as they traveled up to Omaha Westside.

Westside scored first but the Spartans managed to keep fighting and found the back of the net off a corner kick with one minute left in the game.  Both teams went scoreless in overtime to advance to shootout.  Unfortunately, Westside came out on top in the shootout to give the Spartans their first loss of the season.

The Spartans had another test in two days when they got back to town, as they were hosting cross town rival Lincoln Southeast at Seacrest field.  The game was scoreless at halftime, but the team was shaken up after junior forward Morgan Peltz left the game with a knee injury.  Peltz was ruled out for the season with a torn acl.  Southeast got one goal to go passed goalie Sarah Franks as the Spartans lost 1-0. The Spartans were now 3-2.

Next was the HAC Tournament.  The Spartans beat Northstar in the first round which matched them up with Hannah Davis and the Southwest Silverhawks in the second round.  The Spartans scored first off of a incredible goal off of a corner kick from Madie Krueger.  The Spartans fell to the Hawks 3-1, but won the consolation game beating Northeast to take third place in the HAC Tournament.

The Spartans would play Southwest again 10 days later, but came up short again 3-1.

The Spartans were now 6-4, but for the last six games, they didn’t look back, as they won every game until the district playoffs, beating teams like North Platte and Kearney.

The Spartans received the 2 seed in the Omaha Westside district.  They beat Omaha Bryan 7-0 to advance to the district championship against Westside to try and return to state for the first time since 2013.

Like I said earlier, the Spartans would fall to Omaha Westside 2-0 in a well fought game.  That would end the Spartans season ending with a record of 12-5.
