Lincoln East head softball coach Lance Kingery addresses his team between a double header in Lincoln on Tuesday, August 22. East swept Fremont to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Lincoln East Softball team took a pair of wins in a double header against Fremont on Tuesday, August 22, at Doris Bair softball complex in Lincoln.

The softball team has a reputation to keep up after making an appearance at state last year, going in as the wild card eighth seed and getting fourth place. With eight returning seniors this year, the softball team has a lot of experience on the varsity level.

The team overcame a rough start in Tuesday’s first game.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, the girls rallied to show Fremont what they could really do. Their bats came alive, and they racked up the hits and the runs.

They ended up winning the first game by run rule, 13-5 after six innings. To help add to the runs, Callie Svoboda hit a three run home run. The winning pitcher of the first game was Lindsay Elliott.

To start of the second game the bats were hotter than ever. Rachel Weber had a two run home run in the bottom of the second. She added another dinger in the fourth: a two run walk-off that ended the game in another run-rule game with a final score of 16-6 after four innings of play. Ellie Bliemeister also had a two run home run that game to add to the lead. The winning pitcher of the second game was Madison Skiles.

The next game for the Spartans varsity softball team is the LPS Invitational on August 26 at Doris Bair Softball Complex in Lincoln.
