Lincoln East Softball team had a busy week this last week, playing Beatrice on Monday, having their annual “Pink Night” against Lincoln High on Tuesday, and having a long ride up to Kearney on Thursday for a double header.

On Monday, August 28, the lady Spartans took on Beatrice in a game that was stopped after six innings, winning 15-6 it what was one of the best overall games the girls have played this year. Senior center fielder Rachel Weber hit a two-run-home-run in the top of the sixth inning.  Senior Lindsay Elliott got the big win for the Spartans.

“This was probably our best overall performance so far… keyword ‘so far’,” head coach Lance Kingery commented.

Back at Doris Bair on Tuesday, August 29, the Spartans played their annual “Pink Night” game against Lincoln High. The game was a quick four inning affair, ending with a score of 11-1. Senior catcher McKynzie Colón added three runs in the second inning with a three run home run over the right field fence. Senior Madison Skiles was the winning pitcher.

On Thursday, August 31, the Spartans were back on the road, making their way to Kearney for a double header. The first game was against the Kearney Bearcats. It was a close game, but the Spartans came out on top 7-6 in a seven inning game. In the top of the third, senior shortstop Ellie Bliemeister had a solo home run to start the inning off. Elliot pitched a close game and got the win.

In spite of the win, head coach Lance Kingery saw a lot of room for improvement.

“It was probably the least executed game we’ve played so far, but still found a way to win.”

The second game in Kearney was against North Platte. In another long seven inning game, East was able to pull through with another win. Senior first baseman Chace Swanson hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth. Rachel Weber hit a grand slam, clearing the bases and helping the team rack up runs in the top of the third inning. Skiles got the 18-8 win, and senior hurler Elliott pitched in relief to finish the game and earn the save.

The Lincoln East Softball Team has a double header against Columbus on Tuesday, September 5 at Doris Bair Softball Complex and the Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament (HAC) coming up on Saturday September 9 at Doris Bair Softball Complex.
