Music in the Making

Music plays an important role in many people’s lives. Music has the ability to express and relate to emotion, and one of East’s own has begun creating his own music.

Divith Rajagopal began making music in the summer of 2017, drawing inspiration from social media and those around him. When asked how he would describe his music, he noted his witty use of lyrics. Much of Rajagopal’s music has been written by. Once getting inside the music itself, he draws inspiration from “recent events in the news, or parodies of popular song.”

When asking other students about their thoughts on Divith’s music, numerous sentiments were expressed.

“Divith’s music just really inspires me to be the best i can be as a person, I listen to it to hype up,” said a sophomore at East.

Rajagopal also listens to music in order to hype up before competing. Students have played his music during class. So far, he has garnered over 7,000 streams on his Soundcloud account, and hopes to reach over 10,000 total streams and 100 followers in the near future.

Rajagopal says the process of writing and producing music has changed over the course of the past few months, and notes a lot of growth in writing, production, and quality. His original tracks were recorded using a phone microphone, but now production has moved to a more sufficient mic.

Rajagopal says he sees himself continuing music throughout high school, given he finds a lot of enjoyment in making music. He doesn’t hope to make a career out of it in the future, but would live to focus on having fun with it in the time being.

“You have to have a creative mind, and work together with others” said Rajagopal, when asked about what it takes to make music. When encouraging others the pursue the hobby, Rajagopal pushes the importance of enjoying oneself and letting the ideas flow.
