East has three competitive show choir groups, Express (varsity), Elegance (women’s), and Elevation (prep), that compete across the midwest.  Competition days start with early mornings to do hair, makeup, and to catch the bus for the performances.  Most days they get up as early as 5 o’clock in the morning.  Even though not everyone performs around the same time during a competition, the East Show Choirs all arrive at the same time to watch and support the others’ performances.

As a tradition in the East music program, almost all performances end with everyone going to Village Inn to celebrate.  Even after a long day at the Southwest Competition, most went to Village Inn in spite of the late night hours.  Sometimes the directors and accompanists make an appearance at the restaurant.  From early mornings to late nights, the day always ends with a celebration at Village Inn.

East hosted its third annual “Spartan Spectacular” competition on January 27th.  Students, parent volunteers, and teachers had much work to do.   Some students were assigned to host one of the performing groups throughout the day.  A common job the room hosts had was decorate and set up the classroom their group would be staying in.   The show choirs had a long, fun, successful competition day that began for many at 6 a.m. and lasted as late as midnight.

At their first competition at Papillion LaVista, Elegance won third place in the women’s division and all groups won Best Sportsmanship.  At Southwest, Elevation won third place in the prep division, Elegance won first place in the women’s division, and Express won Grand Champions along with Best Band and Best Vocals.  Their other competitions were at Norris, Sioux City East, and Millard North.  The performers had a two week break starting February 5th through the 19th to make room for tryouts for next year’s spots.

As they approach the halfway point of the 2018 show choir competition season, the East performers are looking forward to their last competition in March.  The show choir program at East keeps growing and improving rapidly every year with more people showing that they want to be a part of this amazing family that is the East Show Choirs.
