An unexpectedly rough season for the Lincoln East varsity baseball team continues as the Spartans fall to Lincoln North Star on April 10 at Densmore Field.  The Spartans looked to pick up their first win of the season, but couldn’t escape mistakes late.

The Spartans and Gators were scoreless through two innings.  The Gators took a 6-3 lead after the 5th inning, and a strong performance by the Gator offense.  The bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the Spartans downfall. After scoring 4 runs in the sixth inning, East took a 7-6 lead with senior Zane Busekist on the mound.  Despite two quick outs, the Gators went on to score 4 runs, leading to a Spartan pitching change (senior Jordan Janssen) and a 10-7 lead going into the final inning. The Spartans couldn’t capitalize in the final inning, as senior Max Reinert struck out with the bases loaded.  East falls to (0-8) on the season, while the Gators improve to (4-4). The Spartans are back in action Thursday, April 12 against Lincoln Southeast at 11:30 at Sherman Field in the HAC tournament. The Spartans dropped the previous matchup in the season opener, 13-3.
