Record Breaking Powerball

Saturday, January 9th held the largest jackpot in the history of the Powerball.  Starting in 1988, this American lottery game had a $900,000,000 jackpot on that Saturday.  Billions of people played, but no one was able to match all 5 numbers along with the 6th number- the powerball.  So this jackpot, originally the highest, was beaten just four days later, on Wednesday the 13th.

As if there wasn’t enough hype around the powerball drawing from the 9th, the days leading up to the January 13th drawing were that much crazier.  By the time the drawing rolled around on that Wednesday evening, the jackpot was at 1.5 Billion dollars.

At 9:59 P.M. central time, the numbers of the powerball were announced.  They were 04-08-19-27-34 with a powerball of 10.  Within 20 minutes of this time, billions discovered they had lost, but one ticket was already a confirmed winner in Chino Hills, CA.  Then in the morning, the American Public woke up to learning that two more tickets had been confirmed winners, one in Florida and one in Tennessee.

Despite all the buzz this lottery game created, it really only got a big watching for about a week.  Nonetheless, at least three lucky people will be sharing the $1,500,000,000 jackpot, the biggest in the history of the powerball.
