Kansas Goes Up in Flames

Kansas+Goes+Up+in+Flames

Wildfires have erupted across Kansas and later parts of Oklahoma since Tuesday, March 22.

The fires have spread across Kansas and parts of Oklahoma for more than 400,000 acres. These fires were contained pretty well, except for the raging fire in Barber County, the state’s largest city.

Kansas’s recent temperatures were abnormally warm, which could be one of the causes of the wildfires.

The Kansas Governor, Sam Brownback, signed a State of Disaster Emergency declaration for five Kansas counties.  These counties needed extra help tackling the fires.

A known fact is fires release smoke, which is exactly what these major wildfires did.  These fires let off so much smoke into Nebraska, Missouri, and many other northern states.  In Nebraska, the smoke was so heavy that Lincoln Public Schools Athletics weren’t allowed to practice or play games.

Kansas was unexpectedly hit by snow, somewhat ceasing the fires.

All of these Kansas wildfires has showed how much crazy weather different regions can have.  Kansas definitely went through a “wild” week.
