Every summer the United States Coast Guard Academy holds a camp to introduce potential students to life at the academy.  This camp is called the AIM or Academy Introductory Mission.  At this week long event the campers or Amies, as they are referred to by the cadets, go through a short version of Swab summer.  For those of you who don’t know Swab summer is basically boot camp for the soon to be officers in training.  The five days of the camp correspond with one week of swab summer.  For example the third day of AIM the Amies will go to the firing range and learn a little about guns and maybe shoot a little, the third week of Swab Summer is fire arms training.  Amies also have the opportunity to talk with admissions and learn about the majors offered by the academy as well as the careers they could go into.
