A recreation of the 1954 musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is coming to East, November third through fifth.  East’s vocal music department chose the humorous musical and is in the midst of creating it for everyone’s delight.  

Yet, before you go to the show, here’s a sneak peek of what to expect.

The musical takes place in 1850 in Oregon territory, centering around a woman named Millie and her new husband Adam, and his six other brothers, and the six women they wish to marry.  Though it should be noted that the six brothers kidnap these women, after a fight with the women’s suitors at a barn.

Of course the women order the men to bring them home, yet after an avalanche in the mountains their wish is postponed.  Yet as musicals go, the women find an endearing quality in each of the men, and soon each brother has a potential wife of his own.  

Once spring arrives, the path the avalanche covered is gone, Millie and Adam insist that the women must return to their homes.  Yet, both women and brothers refuse the proposal.  

Shelley Self, music department accompanist, says, “We’re very excited to see all of the parts come together.”
