Black Friday, a day of sales and madness

Black+Friday%2C+a+day+of+sales+and+madness

Thanksgiving weekend is always a great time to watch some football, spend time with family, and of course, eat some awesome food. Most American’s will stay home Thanksgiving night, sleeping off the food or whatever, but the other 46% of Americans will be prepping for one of the biggest shopping days of the year, Black Friday.

Why is it called Black Friday? It was originally called Black Friday because so many people went out to shop that it caused traffic accidents and sometimes even violence, per Wikipedia.com. But all that doesn’t phase the American people, nothing will stop them from getting that sixty inch Sony flat screen tv for $150.00 or whatever they have their heart set on to buy. According to thebalance.com, in 2014, about 133.7 million people went shopping on Black Friday, $50.9 billion was spend that day, next to $57.4 billion in 2013, and $59.1 billion in 2012.

It’s crazy to see what some will go through just to get that merchandise at such a cheap price. Camping out in front of the store has been a trend ever since 1961, when Black Friday first became relevant. People pack their cars as if they are traveling out of town to go camping, but in reality, they are going down to Best Buy and trying to get as close to the doors as possible. How far will people go to get that close spot? Well, this year, a man in Arizona set up camp outside of a Best Buy 2 weeks before the Friday. I hope he got what he came for.

No matter the circumstance, the American people will do anything to get their goods at a cheap price. Whether they have to miss out on their Thanksgiving dinner, or sleep on hard pavement days before the doors open, they are not leaving that store empty handed.
