Little Cheers 2016 Recap

Little+Cheers+2016+Recap

Last Thursday and Friday, 91 elementary level girls filled the East High cafeteria for the 2016 Little Cheers Clinic.  For those who don’t know, Little Cheers is an annual event hosted by the East cheerleaders who give elementary school girls and boys the opportunity to be cheerleaders for the day. Future Spartan cheerleaders were led in a cheer as well as a dance.  Thursday was the learning day for the girls where they were split between kindergarten through first grade and second through fifth grade.  In their age groups they learned a short cheer a dance to a song which went along with this year’s theme “Welcome to the Jungle.” The youngest kids danced to “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” from a classic movie “The Lion King”, while the older kids danced to “Roar” by Katy Perry.

“It is important for young kids to have an opportunity such as little cheers because so often, these little kids look up to high school students. To an elementary aged student high school seems so big. They truly admire our cheerleaders. This event gives them an opportunity to be physically active, see what it is like to be a cheerleader, interact with out cheerleaders and perform in front of a huge audience.” Says reserve cheer head coach Anne Daly.

On Friday night during halftime of the boys basketball game against North Platte, the little cheerleaders were brought down onto the court and led by varsity cheerleaders in their cheer and dance.  Their performances were a huge success and the parents and other East High students enjoyed seeing the Littles shine.
