Spartan Softball Shines at State

After some tough losses in the regular season, the Spartan softball team was able to receive the wild card to get themselves into the state tournament. At state the team was able to redeem themselves. The eighth seeded team lost their first game, however they fought their way through the loser’s bracket to finally ended up with a fourth place finish. Two of those wins included knocking out Omaha Marian and Lincoln Southwest.

“Us seven seniors weren’t ready to be done after a really tough loss at districts,” said senior Alyssa Calfee. “No one was ready to be done when we lost at districts and we were thrilled when we heard we got a wild card. Defeating Lincoln Southwest and Omaha Marian was definitely a great way to end our season.”

The team said goodbye to seven seniors this year meaning next year’s returners will need to step up in order to replace those spots, as well as new members to the team. The run at state is a very historical one for the Spartan softball program, after not having been to state in several years finishing fourth as the eighth seed and coming out of the losers bracket shows that there is a lot of future potential for the team.
