Day Without A Woman

International Women’s Day is March 8th, and people all across the country are attending rallies and wearing red to show their support. International Women’s Day is the first major act by the organizers of The Women’s March since President Donald Trump’s inauguration. The rallies echoed the “Day Without An Immigrant” rallies that were held to acknowledge immigrants and the contributions that they have made to America. They celebrate and praise women for the important roles that they play in our country. They empower and strengthen women all over the world.

Throughout history, women have played important roles in American history. Such famous women as Marie Curie, Rosa Parks, and Amelia Earhart have all made pivotal contributions to America in many areas. Women can do almost anything that men can do. They have proved it countless times throughout American history. But, women have been denied recognition and appreciation.

These rallies seek to change the way women are viewed. They portray women as strong and powerful and gutsy and athletic. Until recently, these attributes were only favored in men. They teach women that they are not inferior to men.  They can do anything they put their mind to.

The people who participate in these rallies want to eliminate discrimination against women. All over the world today, women are still being discriminated against because of their gender. They are denied equal rights and equal pay, simply because they are not men. This kind of discrimination needs to stop. These rallies recognize this.
