Tearing Up the Dance Floor for a Cause

Tiny Hands International, an organization dedicated to preventing sex trafficking across the world, held their third annual LPS Dance-A-Thon at Lincoln High School. The organization aims to prevent sex trafficking before it can occur, and also reaches out to those who have already felt the implications of sex trafficking. Although the Dance-A-Thon didn’t quite reach it’s goal, Tiny Hands received at least $345 in donations from participants, as well as onsite donations and sales of Tiny Hands apparel.
Five teams of students from various high schools in Lincoln hit the dance floor for four hours of nonstop dancing, representative of the freedom and ability possessed to spend a night dancing. The requirements of the night included moving all night, as well as participating in various competitions with one’s team. Breaking any of the requirements would result in the whole team being eliminated for the night, rendering the team ineligible from becoming the ultimate winner. Various competitions occurred throughout the night, resulting in multiple winners of various prizes. Prizes ranged from bracelets to gift baskets, with “The 80s L80s” securing the ultimate victory at the end of the night. “It was for a good cause, and dancing with my team was really fun,” said Nicole Hollander, a sophomore at East who competed with East’s team “Bandana Bonanza,” when asked why she chose to participate in the Dance-A-Thon.
