Athlete of the Meet: Maryah Godwin

The Lincoln East JV track team competed in a meet at Lincoln High on Thursday, March 30th.  All Lincoln Public Schools participated on the cold, spring day.

A transfer from Southwest, Maryah Godwin, is an up and coming athlete.  Godwin participates in hurdles and pole vault.  Hurdles has slowly become her favorite event, after she was thrown into it this year.  At the Lincoln High meet Godwin participated in several events.  She ran the hurdles and finished with a PR (personal record) of 16.3 seconds, and was placed second overall.  Godwin also ran the 300m hurdles (also known as “highway to hell”) in 52 seconds, finishing 4th overall.

A goal of the sophomore hurdler is to make it to state, especially in the 300m hurdles.  In order to advance to the state met, she needs to get her time under 50 seconds, which she hopes to conquer at the Kearney meet on Friday, April 6th.

Godwin is glad she came to East, and loves all of the coaches.

“East is really, really focused on hurdles.  The coaches are focused on winning, but also focused on having fun.  But rule #1 is to not get hurt,” said Godwin.
Godwin, along with the rest of the East varsity track team, will travel the two hours over to Kearney on Friday, and hopefully she will reach that goal of hers.
