The Lincoln East boys varsity soccer team hosted Lincoln Southwest on Friday, April 14 at Seacrest Field.  After an hour and a half rain delay, the Spartans (6-4) looked for revenge against the Hawks (8-3) after losing 1-0 during the HAC tournament.

“Our practice was very high tempo, and we focused on how to defend them,” said Spartan sophomore defender Zion Osorio.

Each team’s stellar defense was met with missed offensive opportunities.   The Hawks and Spartans were scoreless at half, and looked to turn things around in the second.  With under 15 to play, East had its best scoring opportunity of the game, but came up short.  The Hawk offense responded quickly, as Hawk junior midfielder Will Spinar scored his first goal of the season to put the Hawks up 1-0.  Southwest held on to shutout the Spartans, and stay on top of the HAC rankings.

East has suffered four close losses including two 1-0 losses to the Hawks, a 3-2 shootout loss to Pius X, and a 3-2 loss to Omaha Westside.  Despite dropping three of their last four, the Spartans expect to rally back.

“After the game, coach had a talk with us about how we have to have the intensity and heart like last year’s team,” said Osorio.

The Spartans will play Lincoln High on April 19 at Seacrest Field at 5.
