A piece of Christensen’s art work. This piece depicts the well known musician, Chance the Rapper.

If you ever stop by Mrs. Hershey’s class during 5th period, chances are you would see her teacher’s assistant, Dalton Christensen, quietly working on his art while listening to music. A calm environment allows for him to focus. He does this daily, just as something that brings him joy. Christensen prefers to draw over painting or other art techniques. He has drawn since he was young but only recently started drawing frequently as a hobby. He took classes here at East and that helped him learn more about drawing and Mrs. Hershey has helped a lot by giving her input on his work.

“I started drawing because it’s a way to use creativity and imagination. You can use drawing to show deeper messages or just doodle for fun,” Christensen stated. He uses his art to show symbolism but also notes the importance of using art as a stress reliever and something to get your mind off things.

Although he doesn’t plan on going to school for art he says he will always continue to draw. Christensen combines his art with music by doing murals of a few star hip hop artists. He also designed a tattoo that he will be getting in the future. When asked about his favorite piece of art he has created Christensen responded, “I don’t really have one favorite thing I’ve created. Out of everything I don’t think I could narrow it down to one item.”
