Spartan Girls Basketball Head Back to the Bank
The Varsity Girls Basketball team is heading back to state for the third year in a row. The girls hosted the A-4 district against Omaha Central and Omaha Marian at Lincoln East on Tuesday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m, and the championship game on Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Spartan girls took on Omaha Central. The girls started the first half off with an eight point lead, 24-16. The Spartans kept the intensity up in the second holding the Eagles to 13 points. The top scores of the evening were Rachel Weber, Regan Sankey, and starter sophomore, Charlie Bovaird. Weber led the team with 15 points, Sankey following up close behind with 12, and Bovaird with 10 points on the night. The three girls had 32 of the 52 points in the first round of their district games. The Spartans prevailed 52-29 sending the Eagles soaring back home to Omaha Central.
In the championship game against Marian on Thursday was a close game during the first half. The Spartans were down 28-29 against Marian. The girls came back in the third quarter ready to go. Spartans put up 22 points in the third while holding Marian to just 4 points. In the end the girls won their district beating Marian 63-44. Sankey had 18 points while Weber and Roh added 12 and 11 points to the total.
