The Iconic “Photo Finish”

James Dennis Alan, most commonly known as “Denny Hamlin” has recently gone down in Daytona 500 history for the closest race ever.  Hamlin is the driver for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, he takes the wheel of a Toyota Camry number 11.

Denny’s historic win was determined by a “photo finish,” capturing the ending of him and Martin Truex Jr. Truex, a Toyota Camry driver for Furniture Row Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series started his rookie year in 2000.Truex Jr., the last year’s Daytona 500 victor lost by a mere eight inches; or one hundredth of a second: the closest ever in Daytona history.

Although this win was one of the most talked about and primarily centered around Hamlin, one has to wonder how this loss may impact Truex’ future of racing with Furniture Row.  It’s known that Truex’ contract expires at the end of the season, but the single-car Denver-based team has stated they want to re-sign Truex.  As for Hamlin, he’ll be riding high the one of the best wins of Daytona 500 history.
