Not Just A Politician’s Promise

Not+Just+A+Politicians+Promise

Donald Trump has done what very few politicians have; fulfill the promises of their campaign.  Not only has President Trump done this, but he has done this in a very short amount of time.  Trump had taken office on Friday, January 20, 2017.

On the first day of his presidency, Trump signed a total of three executive orders.

His first was to withdraw the US from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.  Its origin enacted during former President Obama’s administration.  This was a free-trade deal between the US and eleven other countries.  After the executive order being signed, it was faced with lots of opposition– as well as acceptance– from both democrats and republicans alike.

Another executive order from the same day was the ‘Mexico City’ policy.  This policy blocks federal funding for organizations that provide abortion services, whether it be counseling or referrals.  This was faced with opposition as well, leading to much protest.

The final executive order of that day came down to a hiring freeze, fueling his campaign’s promise to ‘drain the swamp’.   This order would cause the government from hiring any new workers who are non military.

Trump then transitioned his orders to the controversial Keystone Pipeline, signing an order to approve it.  Throughout  2016, this had faced constant challenge because of the native territory it would invade.

Finally, what topped off this last weekend, and which has overall brought together America once again is the ban on foreign immigration from seven different countries (Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen).  It should be noted that these seven countries, are those that have primarily Islam practitioners.  This would block any travelers from those countries from entering the US, for the next 90 days.
Only a few weeks into his presidency and Trump has already caused quite a stir.  Yet, as controversial as it is, it is quite a change to see a candidate follow through.
