Peace Out Grandmother’s

Peace+Out+Grandmothers

Forty years of smiles, hard work, and football Saturdays just weren’t enough to pull the 70th and A St. Grandmother’s out of a hole after the 2008 recession.

Over the years, fast food chains have slowed down business for the well-known Lincoln restaurant. The very first Grandmother’s restaurant was in Ralston, NE, founded by Dean Rasmussen and Bob Kerrey, closed back in 2014.

Employees were very surprised when they were called to a meeting, assuming it was a regular, happy meeting.  That is,  until the words “going to close” escaped from the manager’s mouth.  The employees described their friendships as being like family. They are all going to miss the warm, inviting atmosphere the employees and restaurant gave to everyone.

Many people will miss the weekly karaoke nights and the seventy made-from-scratch items found on the Sunday Buffet, that was voted the very best in Lincoln in 2014. The Lincoln East High School and Pius X High School communities will miss this restaurant that was home to many dinners after school events.

It’s never easy leaving Grandma’s house, so leaving Grandmother’s isn’t any easier.
