Three East students qualified for the DECA International Career Development Conference earlier this year at the state DECA competition. Peyton Bash, Emilee Shostrom, and Ben Weber will all be representing Nebraska in DECA competition.

Qualifying for nationals requires placing in the top three of a competitive state DECA event.
Emilee Shostrom, president of Lincoln East DECA, won 2nd place at state for her category and teammates Peyton Bash and Ben Weber placed first and second in their category, Principles of Marketing.

The DECA team will be leaving for Nashville Friday to represent Nebraska, along with other students from Lincoln and Omaha

Competition consists of taking a one hundred question test, with the questions adapted for each category. Also there are two “role plays” or mock interviews. Judges score the interviews based on how well the person mentions and understands the performance indicators. Each of the role plays are graded out of one hundred points, and at the end of the competition the scores from the role plays and test are averaged together to determine the final overall scores.

DECA is a rapidly growing club and has an amazing opportunity to establish itself as a top club at East.
