Randy Stollar’s E-Bike

Randy Stollar, a member of the custodial staff, has a notably different mode of transportation. Whereas many people travel by car or bus, Randy travels by bicycle. As ordinary as this may sound, Randy’s bike can go up 30 miles per hour, and has large batteries on the sides. It can charge his phone as he rides to school, and has much stronger lights than your average bike. As long as he keeps it charged, he can get around with ease. Although it requires a bit more maintenance than a typical bicycle, such as keeping charged and checking the spokes, Randy’s e-bike has become his preferred mode of transportation. “The day after school got out, I was diagnosed with diabetes,” Randy said, explaining his choice to use a bike instead of a car. He either had the option of using insulin or exercising, so he created his e-bike to exercise more often. “It helps me out, and it helps out others,” Randy explained. He’s able to carry around a compressor for those he finds stranded with flat tires. He can hook the compressor onto his bike and pumps other’s tires up with ease. This e-bike allows for him to manage his diabetes, maintain a healthier lifestyle, and provides a cheap mode of transportation.

He purchased the bike from Walmart, and with the aid of a kit purchased off of the internet, he was able to transform an ordinary bike to a reliable, efficient mode of transportation. It took him three days to create, along with a bit of trial and error. The bike is much heavier in the back, due to the large batteries that power the bike, which makes it easier to fall backwards on the bike. Even with these minor complications, the bike has become a fantastic option for transportation.
