Making It Count At Math Day!

A flyer for UNL Math Day 2016

Today marks the annual University of Nebraska-Lincoln Math Day!  As you may remember from my previous article about math club here at East I touched base on this day.  Today, students involved will be off at UNL to represent East and compete against other schools.  The day is composed of multiple rounds consisting of multiple-choice, preliminary exam called PROBE I (Problems Requiring Original and Brilliant Effort). The top 40 students then move on to take the next exam called PROBE II. The PROBE top 10 Nebraska high school students who completed PROBE I &II are awarded a total of $34,000 in four-year scholarships to UNL.

According to UNL, the purpose of UNL math day is to “stimulate interest in mathematics among Nebraska high school students, encourage them to pursue mathematics or mathematics-based science as a career, and recognize mathematical ability by awarding scholarships, certificates and trophies.”  Stemming from 27 years ago, when the first UNL math day was held, East students have continued to thrive in participating on this day.

Let’s wish our mathletes good luck as they represent East and compete for awesome scholarships!
