Incase any of our readers didn’t know school will not be in session on Monday April, 10. While the majority of East student will be enjoying a three day weekend by sleeping in and procrastinating on homework that they normally would have been doing Sunday night, the halls of East will still be a buzz. Students from East Band and Singers choir and Orchestra will be here along with several other schools and their bands, orchestras, and choirs competing at the 2017 District Music Competition held annually.
For all three groups this is their biggest competition/performance of the year, everyone has been prepping with long practices and hard work. Both the teachers and students take it very seriously. For concert band this is one of their few competitions so they put their all into their performance and try to get as much out of it as possible.
“We have worked really hard all year for this and it is the last big bang of the year for us.” Say Annalise Christsen a third year member of Singers. “It will be a very long day but in the end its worth it because we have all worked so hard for this.”
The way the competition works is each school performs in whichever category, whether it be choir, band, or orchestra in front of judges. Later they will receive a rating from one to three, one being the highest. Your score is a great indicator of where your program is at and what improvements to make for the next year. Last year, East’s orchestra scored a superior and were just off of a perfect score. Our band and choir also scored superiors.
So with that, while you are sleeping in on your Monday morning enjoying a nice three day weekend thank the kids who will be here leaving it all on the stage for the District Music Competition.
