Lincoln East varsity golfer, Steven Strasheim, has made a name for himself in his two seasons as a varsity golfer. The sophomore has led the Spartans to two LPS championships and a 2016 district title. Since his freshman year, Strasheim has lowered his scoring average while gaining confidence and experience.
“I’m not as nervous on the tee as I used to be,” said Strasheim. “I’ve got more experience under my belt as a state qualifier.”
His favorite memory as an East golfer was the LPS championship last year. The team posted their lowest score of the season, and Strasheim had one of his best performances of his career.
Strasheim loves the family aspect of the East golf program, and he appreciates the support they receive from the administration at East. “Even though golf is an individual sport, we are a tight knit family,” said Strasheim.
Strasheim would love to continue his golf career in college if he has the opportunity. He won his first golf tournament at 9, and has loved the what he refers to as the “gentleman’s game” ever since. Strasheim looks up to golfers Jack Nicklaus, who he believes to be the best golfer of all time, and Arnold Palmer, who shaped the game into a more casual sport.
Strasheim and the Lincoln East varsity golf team will compete in their final invitational before districts on Friday, May 12 at Norfolk Country Club.
