My friend Linde sent me this photo of her spring vacation in Hawaii. What are your spring break plans?

Top Lincoln spots for Spring Break

This is it, Spartans. Your last day until a glorious week of no crowded hallways, no fire drills in freezing temps, and you won’t have to charge your Chromebook! Many families take the spring break as a vacation time to get away from everyday business and enjoy what other places have to offer. My friend Linde is at a conference in Maui right now, it looks absolutely stunning, but not all of us can get on over to Hawaii, Los Angeles, Florida, or New York. If you plan on staying in the 402 over break, here are some great spots so you can make the most of your break.

FOOD & DRINK

High Vibe Cafe – A unique spot located downtown at 13th and O, High Vibe Cafe offers snacks and smoothies as well as smoothie bowls that are almost too perfect for your VSCO. Pricing ranges between $5 and $10, according to my colleague Kierstin Foote.

Hiro 88 – Commonly known for it’s delicious sushi, Hiro 88 offers many different types of sushi rolls, as well as sashimi and nigiri. There are two locations in Lincoln, one downtown near the Pinnacle Bank Arena, and another right at 56th and Pine Lake. If you like trying new things, this is the place! While not a huge fan of Asian cuisine, I loved Hiro 88 when I went!

Goldenrod Pastries  – The good life. We’ve all seen the sign on Instagram, why not go out and try it! Famous for it’s macarons, Goldenrod also offers cake by the slice, cookie sandwiches, cinnamon rolls and iced coffee. The bakery also caters to a variety of diets, whether you’re gluten-free, vegan or just wanting to branch out, you’re sure to find something you like here. It’s located at 48th and Prescott, across the street from Union College.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Pioneers Park – Seated upon 668 acres of mixed land, this park has lots to offer. Multiple walking trails and bridges in the nature center, buffalo upon other animals, a playground, a pond to feed ducks. It’s great if you plan on getting out of the rush of Lincoln, but still want to be close by. Oh, and if the C & L Dairy Sweet is open (right on the corner of S. Coddington and W. Van Dorn) — you need to stop by! Be aware of construction.

Gateway Mall – A hot place to shop in Lincoln, Gateway offers many stores that our age group enjoys. From Pacsun to American Eagle, to H&M and Forever 21, you’re sure to find something you will like at Gateway. A new Dick’s Sporting Goods opened in 2017, as well as a newer Granite City restaurant. Plenty of places to dine nearby, and you won’t have to worry about extreme heat or freezing temperatures! (63rd and O)
