“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser” is a recent Netflix film, starring Shannon Purser, Kristine Froseth, RJ Cyler, and Noah Centineo, that teaches us it’s okay to be yourself. This nostalgic ‘80s feel movie has similarities to “Pretty in Pink” plus online catfishing. The movie focuses on friendship and self-discovery, while still including a building romance.

Sierra Burgess seems to have it all together – lots of money, big house, famous father – but she has a whole different reputation at school. Bullied by the typical mean girl, Veronica, may have its upsides. When Veronica passes Sierra’s phone number off to the rival school’s “loser” quarterback, Sierra’s life is turned upside down.

Different from many other popular movies, Sierra Burgess gives Veronica a home life and dives into why she is the way she is.

Centineo, also known as Peter Kavinsky in “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” and Purser, Barb in “Stranger Things,” play off each other perfectly, even when they aren’t in the same room. Purser and Froseth have the same chemistry, although in a completely different way.
