The Lincoln East varsity softball team is heading into the A District Tournament 13-18 overall with a 3-3 district record.  “I think we still need to be able to figure out how to be the best we can be,” said head coach Lance Kingery. “So, we certainly haven’t hit that yet.”  With 70% of the team graduating last year, the 2018 Spartans are young and energetic. “The more experience that they can get, whether it be game, practice speed, ethics, whatever it may be, the better off it’s gonna be for us down the road,” said Kingery.

East has not had much trouble generating offense throughout most of the season, but has struggled with constancy.  “We score a lot of runs. And the things we need to do better at, is just being consistent. Right now, we ride the roller coaster of we’re up one game, down another game,” stated Kingery.  Despite all of the ups and downs, the Spartans have remained optimistic.

It is evident that the team gets along well.  “You know, they’re good kids,” declared Kingery.  “I mean they know why they’re here, they know who they play for, hopefully they’re playing for each other, at least that’s the goal.”  The Spartans all have a common goal in mind, to take care of themselves, control what they can control, and not concern themselves with who they are playing.  East begins the NSAA District Tournament Thursday at 10am against Norfolk at Doris Bair Softball Complex.
