Pack the Pool brings attention to swimming and more
The annual Pack the Pool, a swimming and diving event, was one of the best we’ve ever had in attendance. The stands were filled with students, swimming and dive alumni, parents and relatives, and Spartan fans. The East High community came together to support the hardworking student-athletes last night, helping them celebrate their remarkable win. In their meet against the Lincoln High Links, the girls finished 131 and Lincoln High with 49, and the boys finishing with 132 to Lincoln High’s 48.
Last night was the Spartan’s last home meet, and an important meet for the boys; as they are chasing a third straight city championship. In addition to it being their last home meet, the Spartans recognized and thanked this years seniors on the dive and swim team. A total of eighteen seniors were apart of the team this year. Senior Elizabeth Jurich, a swimmer for the Spartans, experienced one last swim in her final East home meet. “It’s gone by really fast,” she says, “every year there’s someone on the team that you become really good friends with; we’re always together.”
Pack the Pool is a great way to branch out and experience watching new sports and different athletes. “It’s a good opportunity for people to go see other sports that aren’t so mainstream. For example, if they enjoyed that experience maybe they’d go see golf or another smaller recognized sport,” explains Jurich about the event.
Overall, Pack the Pool had an exceptional turn out, filling the entirety of the stands. Make sure to catch the Spartans swim and dive at their next meet! The next meat for the boys is the Ralston Invitational on 1/19, and for the girls, Grand Island on 1/24.
