Humans of Lincoln East: Kellen Gorr
If you feel locked in a tough spot, read on as Kellen Gorr exemplifies his idea on learning as we grow. “Ever since I grew up playing hockey, that is all my hockey coaches would say, ‘Your mistakes make you better. Learn from them. Learn from your mistakes.’”
Kellen Gorr, a junior and hockey athlete at Lincoln East High School, establishes his thoughts on the personal struggles of people. Kellen believes that everyone is different when it comes to independence versus a reliance on people.
“I would say 80% independent and 20% need other people because you should be able to do most stuff independently and not have to rely on other people, but there are those times where you just need them,” he said.
We all need breathers from our will in accomplishing challenges, as Kellen says he feels stressed “once or twice a day. I keep almost everything to myself. I do not really open up to a lot of people unless we are talking about it. I like to keep things to myself,” he said.
As far as mental illness goes, Kellen believes that it’s more common than we know. “I think almost everyone has some type of depression in their own way,” he said. “Some more serious than others, but everyone gets it at one point in their life. Even the most perfect people you can think of probably have been depressed at some point.”
Kellen sums up with a motivational statement. “If you are trying to do whatever goal and got to do stuff that is making you mad, I say just do not do it and do whatever makes you happy.”
