Marvel Studio Eternals: A look into Marvel’s next phase!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) newest phase “Eternals” debuted November 5th, 2021 in theaters. The movie will also be available on Disney+ January 12th, 2022. The “Eternals” movie is a big switch for the MCU because it is starting a new phase of immortals. “Eternals” takes place in summer of 2024 and comes after the avenger film franchise and the movie “Avengers: Endgame”. “Eternals” consist of nine different immortal humans: Ikaris (Richard Madden), Sersi (Gemma Chan), Thena (Angelina Jolie), Gilgamesh (MA Dong-seok), Druig (Barry Keoghan), Sprite (Lia McHugh), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), and Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry). Each Eternal is based on some part of folklore, mythology, Greek pantheon, or Roman pantheon. Some people also say that because of the in-universe (a perspective or view from the context of a fictional world), they actually inspired the myths we now read today.
“Eternals” director, Chloé Zhao, is a Chinese-born filmmaker, known mainly for her work on independent films. Throughout the movie there are various costumes that consist of different colors and designs that fit each Eternal differently. All costumes are designed by Sammy Sheldon but the initial concept for each of the Eternals looks came from Ryan Meinerding.
Grace Steele is a 10th grader at East High School. She has watched most of the Marvel Studio movies and was very eager to see the way Marvel was going to transition from ending the Avenger movies to starting the Eternals.
“I liked the movie and I recommend it as well,” Steele said.”It was a was a bit confusing but It lines up with all the marvel story plots and other things that happen in the movies”
Unfortunately, “Eternals” sits as one of the lowest scoring movies in MCU on “Rotten Tomatoes” but its visual effects have been the main reason for the multitude of views it has gained in this last month. Bahget Abdalmalek is Eternals visualization artist and also has done visual effects for many other award winning action packed movies.
“The whole concept was really interesting,” Steele said. “The acting was also really good and there were a lot of cool shots in the movie…Also the scenery and different actions they did were also really good.”
