Jennifer Coolidge ignores play off music, dances during Emmy acceptance
Jennifer Coolidge accepted her first Emmy Award at the 74th annual Emmy Awards Show on September 20, 2022. Coolidge, age 61, won the award in the category of “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie” granted to her for her performance in movie “The White Lotus”.
Immediately after it was announced that Coolidge had won, she walked on stage for her acceptance speech, beginning her speech by expressing her gratitude to a number of people, and continuing by babbling on, sharing intimate information with the audience.
“I took a lavender bath tonight, right before the show. And it made me swell up inside my dress,” Coolidge said.
Amidst Coolidge’s speech, as she continued to babble on, play-off music, which is commonly utilized to usher speakers off stage, began playing, interrupting the actress. Coolidge spoke through the music, saying “Wait, hold on,” and began dancing when the producers rolled the song “Hit the Road Jack,” shocking the crowd. Although Coolidge seemed unbothered, fans were outraged.
“Freaking rude. Let Jennifer Coolidge talk!” @EricCoomer tweeted.
“Those producers deserve jail for playing off Jennifer Coolidge this aggressively. So rude.” another Twitter user posted.
It was made clear that night that not only is Jennifer Coolidge able to keep people entertained on the television screen, but also on stage.
