Season 31 of Dancing with the Stars has started. Here’s what you should know
On September 19, 2022, the 31st season of “Dancing with the Stars” started. A total of 16 new celebrities took the ballroom floor to showcase their talents. These dancers are all competing for the chance to go to the finale, and maybe win the mirrorball.
At the beginning of the season, 16 stars debuted. Most have never danced before, but some have experience that may put them on top. Some stars you may recognize, and some you may have never heard of before. First, and possibly the most popular for the younger generation, is Charli D’Amelio. Charli is Internet famous and has 147.6 million followers on TikTok. Also starring on the show is her mother, Heidi D’Amelio. Heidi is most known for being Charli’s mother and for their reality TV show, “The D’Amelio Show”.
The next star appearing on the show is Selma Blair. Selma is most known for starring in “Cruel Intentions” and “Legally Blonde”. Wayne Brady also debuted on the show. Wayne is known from “Whose Line is it Anyway?”. Then, Shangela from “RuPaul’s Drag Race”, “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” star, Teresa Giudice appeared, and Cheryl Ladd from “Charlie’s Angels”.
Daniel Durant, from Oscar award winning “CODA”, has taken the stage this season, and “American Idol” Jordin Sparks is competing. Next, Vinny Guadagnino from “Jersey Shore”. From the “Bachelorette”, Gabby Windey debuted on the first night. Jason Lewis, from “Sex and the City”, has been on this season and Jessie James Decker is a country star and has been starring on this season. Trevor Donovan starred in “90210”, and has been dancing the night away along with weather anchor Sam Champion. Lastly, Joseph Baena is a fitness model and has been competing for the last few nights.
So far, 3 episodes of “Dancing with the Stars” have aired live on Disney Plus. On each night there was an exciting theme, but sadly, 4 dancers have already been eliminated.
On September 19, the theme was “Premiere Night Party” and all 16 celebrities performed live to a song of their choosing. Unfortunately, one dancer was eliminated at the end of the night and missed their chance to win the Mirrorball. This dancer was Jason Lewis and his former partner, Peta Murgatroyd. However, on the other end of the leaderboard was Charli D’Amelio and her partner Mark Ballas, with the highest score of 32 out of 40.
“This is like a dream come true for me,” Charli D’Amelio said after receiving her score. “And I’m just so happy to be here.”
The second episode was “Elvis Night” premiering on September 26. Each dancer performed to one of Elvis Presley’s famous songs. 15 dancers performed, but only 14 had gone on to the next night. Teresa Giudice and her former partner Pasha Pashkov were eliminated after the first three judges were split down the middle on who to vote off. At the end, Len Goodman, head judge, made the call to send Teresa home. However, 3 stars tied for the first place spot on the leaderboard. Gabby Windey, Wayne Brady, and Charli D’Amelio all received a 32 out of 40.
On October 3, the episode was “Bond Night” where every dancer performed to a James Bond song. At the end of the night, Cheryl Ladd and her former partner Louis Van Amstel were voted off by the judges. Yet again, Gabby Windey, Wayne Brady and Charli D’Amelio were on the top of the leaderboard with scores of 33 out of 40.
Most recently, episode 4 premiered on October 10th. The theme was “Disney+ Night” and every dancer performed to a song from something on Disney+. Sam Champion and his partner Cheryl Burke ended up going home at the end of the night. On the other end of the leaderboard, Wayne Brady, Gabby Windey, and Charli D’Amelio were all still on top with scores of 36 out of 40.
“The people who’ve been eliminated so far are all the older people,” A watcher of the show said. “The people on top have the experience. Like, Charli is a dancer and Wayne has been on broadway. So, no.”
