The Sanderson Sisters make a comeback in 2022
It’s just a bunch of hocus pocus! Everyone’s favorite witches are back, but in 2022! “Hocus Pocus 2” came out on September 30, 2022, exclusively on Disney Plus. The movie’s stars include Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najmy, as the three witches, Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson. These are the same ladies that played the witches back in the original Hocus Pocus, in 1993. The movie also stars Whitney Peak as Becca, and Belissa Escobedo as Izzy, two best friends who accidentally unleash the Sanderson Sisters. The movie was written by Jen D’ Angelo, and directed by Anne Fletcher.
The movie starts when all three young Sanderson Sisters are banished from Salem after Winifred refused to marry John Prichered, and as a result, Winifered’s sisters would have been taken away from her. After a spider was released throughout the town, the witches were able to escape to a forest through all the commotion. While in the forest, the sisters stumble across the Mother Witch, who gives them a spell book, but warns them about the dangerous features of the book. The movie then jumps forward to present-day Salem, where young Becca is unconousily given a black flame candle for her birthday. After she and her friend Izzy light the candle, it is a race against the sun to try to get the witches to leave. Throughout the night, the witches visit a present day Walgreens, which, taken by their surprise, is a lot different than 29 years ago. As the night comes to an end after a battle between the girls and the witches, Winifred Sanderson finds out that no matter the amount of power, her sisters will always be her number one.
“I liked the continuation of the plot from the first movie and the fact that the Sanderson Sisters were the same actors,” said Jennifer Larson, a sophomore. “The movie is safe to watch with little kids and is still very entertaining for older kids and adults as well.”
Through a movie filled with spooky tricks, and scary scenes, this family friendly movie shows the true meaning of friendship, and having your friends by your side. As said previously, the movie is now out on Disney Plus through a subscription of $7.99/month. If you love Witches, Halloween, and Friendship, the movie is for you!
