Taylor Swift kicked off her sixth ever running tour on March 17, 2023 with plans to perform until November 23, 2024. This tour, best known as the Eras Tour, features around 44 songs from all of her ten albums. Swift has set record breaking expectations for this tour, with a prediction to beat the current record holder, Elton John’s Farewell tour, for the highest grossing of all time.
Nora Link, junior at Lincoln East, attended two of the Eras Tour concerts. She went to the June 26 show in Minnesota and the July 7 show in Kansas City.
“I think there is such a large appeal to Taylor Swift because she really is the artist of our generation,” Link said. “She’s such a genuine person and cares about her fans and that shows at her concerts.”
Throughout her career, Swift has been able to engage one of the largest fan bases. Each arena that Swift performs in has an average of 72,459 Swifties attending every night. Since participation is so high with each show, there are several nights available in each city. When so many people are staying in one place for her concerts, the revenue builds up for hotels, local business, and the general economy of the United States. The Federal Reserve has predicted that Swift will produce over five billion dollars in consumer spending.
Taylor Joyce, junior at Lincoln East, also went to the July 7 concert in Kansas City.
“The best thing was getting to hear my favorite songs live and trading friendship bracelets,” Joyce said. “She is very creative with everything she does and is also a role model for all kinds of people.”
There are still countless tour dates that will continue to make Taylor Swift a record breaker with the Eras Tour. With each city she enters, fans flock into hotels and spend money on all things expenses. This is only the beginning of Swift’s mark on our economy.
