Just Dance Club made its debut at Lincoln East during the 2023-2024 school year. Despite being a new club, many students have already joined in its initial meetings. As the club’s name implies, members play various versions of the popular Wii game, moving around with friends and getting fit in a fun way. There are snacks, disco lights, and members who dance like no one is watching.
The club was founded by junior Camrynn Landers, who takes great pride in her role as founder and president. She is very passionate about the game and wanted to share her passion with others.
“Everybody loves Just Dance, and if you don’t love Just Dance, you’re lying,” Landers said. “We were playing it in aerobics and our teacher, Ms. Karnes, said, ‘If you guys start a Just Dance Club, I’ll be your sponsor.’”
The rest is history as Lincoln East PE/health teacher Ms. Karnes did go on to be the club’s sponsor. She finds entertainment in the club just as much as the members do.
“It’s something that we do in aerobics class that the students seem to really enjoy,” Karnes said. “And we’re also just being active and having fun with it. So it was just a good way of how you don’t necessarily have to take part in a sport to be active and involved.”
At each meeting, it is expected to find a welcoming environment by club members who all simply want to end their day on a high note.
“We take turns picking the songs, and we have snacks. We bring snacks to every meeting. It’s such a fun way to spend your Monday,” Landers said.
Although Just Dance Club is just getting started, its upbeat nature is sure to bring further success going into the rest of the school year.
“The last two weeks have been our first days to actually dance, and it’s been so cool to see everyone all together, having fun, getting sweaty, all of that,” Karnes said.
Just Dance Club meets every Monday in room 279 from 3:15-4:00. Being such a joyous and unique club at East, it is one to definitely be attended.
