“Inside Out 2” is the sequel to “Inside Out” which premiered in July 2015. Almost a decade later, the sequel came out. “Inside Out 2” made its first appearance on July 24, 2024, starring many famous actors like Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, and Phyllis Smith. Pixar Studios has released a few movies over the past few years, but none have been as big of a hit as “Inside Out 2.” The movie will be available to stream on Disney+ soon.
The “Inside Out” movies focus on a preteen girl named Riley. During the film, you travel into Riley’s mind and see her emotions represented as people. The five main emotions are Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust. This movie emphasizes the importance of feeling sad and how sometimes happiness isn’t always the answer.
Inside Out 2 takes place two years later, and Riley is now a 13 year old teenager. As she reaches puberty, new emotions come to Riley’s mind, Anxiety, Envy, Ennui (boredom) and Embarrassment. These emotions throw off the normal balance and wreak havoc in Riley’s mind. The emotions have to learn how to accept each other even when it seems hard to look past all of their differences and flaws.
According to the NPR article written by Elizabeth Blair, “[Lisa] Damour, a clinical psychologist and author, said she believes that the Inside Out movies help kids — and parents — validate emotions, including the painful ones, and show us that feeling those emotions can even make us better humans.”
The movie allowed people to become more open about their feelings no matter how hard they were to talk about. “Inside Out 2” allowed these problems people have been facing quietly for years to come to the surface, which then let them get the help they need.
Not only did this movie help people out with their mental health and their emotions, but it was entertaining as well. The movie was rated highly with a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and many people admitted to seeing the movie more than once while it was in theaters this summer.
“I like how they made the feelings so realistic and relatable,”freshman Yatzil Villalobos said. “I think they did a good job with characters and touching a lot of teens because they made a childhood movie into something we can all relate to.”
After waiting so long for this sequel people weren’t sure what to expect from Pixar, but this movie shocked everyone with its different take on more “negative” emotions as Riley grows and changes in her teen years. For anyone on the fence about whether or not to see the movie, know that not only will it give you a good laugh, but it can also help you feel more comfortable about your own clothes.
