On Friday, September 13, 2024, at Lincoln East High School, Eloisa Swinehart and Mueen Mahmood won homecoming royalty at the homecoming dance. These two won the crowns and the hearts of the East community.
Homecoming royalty is a long-lasting tradition at East. It may seem simple, but there is more behind the scenes. During the 3 lunch periods, seniors can nominate other seniors for homecoming court. Every year there is a football game on the Thursday before the dance. During half-time of the game, students find out who won homecoming court. At the dance, the King and Queen are finally announced and crowned.
The homecoming king for this year, Mueen Mahmood, is involved in the East swim team and does taekwondo which he has achieved his green belt. He enjoys volunteering with the American Red Cross and working at the homeless shelter. Reading graphic novels is also one of his favorite hobbies.
“It feels amazing to be voted homecoming king,” Mahmood said. “I felt so surprised and shocked that everyone cheered for me.”
The homecoming queen for this year, Eloisa Swinehart is involved in theater tech, and feminist club and is the president of Hosa. On weekends, she works at a daycare and on weekends at a nursery. In her free time, she enjoys making music and plays the piano and guitar.
“It was unexpected so I didn’t think much about it,” Swinehart said.“I thought Nusrat was going to win for sure.”
East’s homecoming dance and lighthearted competition are admired by many students. Make sure to vote for Homecoming Court and Royalty for next year!
