We’ve felt the chilly breeze, which means fall is here and Bagels and Joe, a local bagel and coffee shop with far more than just bagels and coffee, introduces their new fall menu. Bagels and Joe has four locations in Lincoln, as well as one in Seward. The fall menu features an apple cinnamon bagel with apple butter cream cheese, an apple pie dirty chai, a turkey apple bacon panini, as well as an apple coffee cake muffin.
Everywhere has fall specials, but what makes Bagels and Joe’s unique is that it features local apples in the cream cheese from a farm right in town, Farm Hill Orchard. Working with local businesses excites customers. Bagels and Joe now makes a karma-latte where 10% of the purchase goes to local charities such as BraveBe and Tabitha to help those in need.
“Customers are never mad to hear our produce is fresh from here in Nebraska!” Timoree Dodd, employee at Bagels and Joe and junior at Lincoln East, said.
I tried all of the fall menu items, and would agree with all the raving customer reviews.
Turkey Apple Bacon Panini
If I had to vote on my personal favorite on the fall menu, or even possibly my personal favorite at Bagels and Joe, I would have to say the turkey apple bacon panini. This sandwich was full of fresh apples and turkey, a nice crisp bacon, all on a perfect everything bagel. The combination created the most crispy crunch that I have now recommended to all my friends and family.
Apple Cinnamon Bagel with Apple Butter Cream Cheese
“The apple butter cream cheese is nice and subtle and a good pick if you’re feeling in the fall mood.” Dodd said.
The fresh apples in the apple butter cream cheese creates a general fresh aroma throughout it. The hint of cinnamon creates the perfect amount of sweetness without being over the top. This cream cheese paired with the apple cinnamon bagel is never a bad choice, as it has the perfect flavors of apples and cinnamon interspersed throughout the bagel, creating the perfect fall breakfast.
Apple Pie Dirty Chai
The second I took a sip of the apple pie dirty chai, I knew my order for next time. As a latte lover, this was the perfect drink for me to naturally love, with a unique apple twist to create interest. The cinnamon created a slight spice, although the drink was heavily dominated by espresso.
“It has strong coffee flavors, with a cinnamon aftertaste, but toned down,” Stella Stempson, a junior at Lincoln East, said. “It is very good and refreshing.”
If you are looking for a chai, I would not recommend it, but if you are looking for a good drink, 100% try this.
Apple Coffee Cake Muffin
This apple coffee cake muffin involves the subtle flavors of cinnamon throughout with streaks of spices. Although the real star of the show was the cinnamon crumble on top creating a slight crunch that keeps you craving for more. This muffin brought the idea of a cinnamon roll with a texture of a coffee cake.
“The texture is great, with little cinnamon pieces, similar to a cinnamon roll,” Stempson said.
I walked away from the fall menu, feeling satisfied with money well spent. The new fall menu had perfect fresh fall flavors, making me excited to come back for more.
