On September 24 to 29, 2024 Hurricane Helene hit Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, North and South Carolina, leaving around 200 people dead with countless properties destroyed. With Hurricane Milton on the way and numerous communities already in ruin, it is vital for us as a country to rally together and help fellow Americans in need.
Hurricane Helene’s near record breaking size, a category 4 tropical storm, caused immense damage in southeastern states. Volunteers from all across the country are working with locals, doing everything in their power to aid survivors and restore affected areas.
According to a FEMA press release from October 8, 2024, “Nearly 7,000 federal personnel are deployed, including FEMA staff. To date, FEMA has shipped over 16.2 million meals, more than 13.9 million liters of water, 210 generators and more than 505,000 tarps to the region. FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams are on the ground in neighborhoods across the affected states helping survivors apply for assistance and connecting them with additional state, local, federal and voluntary agency resources.”
Water Mission is one of many outstanding organizations making great efforts to support people in the thick of hurricane damage. Their work is currently concentrated in western North Carolina, ensuring those in need get the aid and resources they desperately need.
“With more than 20 years of experience responding to natural and humanitarian crises, Water Mission has an extensive background in providing immediate and long-term solutions,” Water Mission CEO and President, George Greene IV said on Water Mission’s website. “In each response, our team is there to reassure those dealing with overwhelming loss that God is with them. Please pray for the families impacted by Hurricane Helene and for our team on the ground responding to this urgent situation. Please consider coming alongside us in our efforts to help those impacted by this unprecedented disaster.”
